Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
